Meet Gifty

Gifty Aba Yankson, MSN, APRN, PMHNP-BC

“A journey across three continents, grounded in one belief: people deserve to be heard.”

My journey in healthcare has taken me across Africa, Europe, and North America—through different healthcare systems, cultures, and perspectives on health and mental wellness. Those experiences have shaped not only how I understand healthcare, but how I believe people should experience it.

My connection to mental health began early in my nursing journey. While in nursing school, I worked as a mental health technician, where I began to see firsthand the importance of compassion, patience, and truly listening to people during some of the most vulnerable moments of their lives.
I went on to spend more than a decade working as a mental health nurse, caring for individuals with a wide range of psychiatric and behavioral health needs. Alongside my mental-health experience, I also developed a strong clinical background in high-risk perinatal nursing, caring for women and families during complex and often life-changing periods.

My nursing journey later took me into travel nursing, where I spent approximately two and a half years as a travel mental health nurse. Working in different settings and with different communities broadened my clinical perspective and reinforced something I had learned throughout my career:

While healthcare systems may differ, every person wants to feel seen, respected, understood, and cared for as an individual.

Today, I continue to work in high-risk perinatal nursing while beginning the next chapter of my career as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner.

My experience at the bedside, across mental-health settings, in high-risk perinatal care, and as a travel nurse has shaped the way I approach psychiatric care today. I believe mental-health care should be personal, collaborative, thoughtful, and grounded in the whole person—not simply a diagnosis. Your symptoms matter, but so do your experiences, your culture, your relationships, your responsibilities, your goals, and the life you are trying to build.
